ACODA, Raven Hall, Corby, 03/04/09

Headlining band ACODA storm the stage just as the sense of anticipation from tonight's crowd reaches its climax. They fly head first into 'Sleeping Escapade', showing exactly why so many people have been giving the Northamptonshire-based alternative/metal quintet so much hype recently. Massive riffs and stunning harmonies emanate from flying guitars, while incredibly tight bass and drums lend a more than assured accompaniment. Lead singer Damon's vocals still manage to pierce the wall of sound, providing the perfect compliment for the talented musicians behind him.

ACODA's decision to give away their latest EP free, on the basis of exposure being more valuable than sales in today's music scene, appears immediately justified. More than a few of the packed local crowd scream every word back at them.

Highlights of the performance include 'A Stolen Car Passing', 'Trains' and 'A Dark Passenger', with the latter giving a timely reminder for the crowd to "close your eyes and focus on your breathing". After such a breath-taking gig from one of Northamptonshire's most exciting prospects this is some advice that the majority of tonight's audience will be extremely happy for.
